Everyone has read poetry at some point in their lives - you might even have read or studied a poetry collection. But that was probably a book-length work. What about the thriving form of the shorter, but no less significant, poetry pamphlet? This panel discussion, featuring leading poetry pamphlet publishers (including the Poetry Centre's own award-winning ignitionpress), will celebrate the pamphlet, share some examples, and discuss the pamphlet's vital importance for writers, readers, and the poetry community.

The event will be chaired by Niall Munro and Claire Cox, two of the co-founders of Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre's ignitionpress, an award-winning poetry pamphlet press with an international outlook which publishes original, arresting poetry from emerging poets. Pamphlets published by the press have so far received five Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice selections. Three ignitionpress pamphlets have also been shortlisted for the Michael Marks Poetry Award, 2020, and the press won the Michael Marks Publishers' Award in 2021.

They will be joined by:

Kym Deyn (they/she), an award-winning writer (https://kymdeyn.com/) based in Newcastle. Their pamphlet, Dionysia, is forthcoming with Verve Poetry press, and they were selected for the Nine Arches’ Primers scheme in 2021. Their microchapbook Fee Fi Fo Fum was published by Broken Sleep Books. Kym is the founder, director and editor of The Braag CIC (https://thebraag.co/), a press, journal and trickster spirit that publishes poetry and speculative fiction while supporting emerging artists in the North East of England. Originally from Teesside, Kym has been passionate about arts in the North since becoming a member of the Writing Squad’s mentorship scheme in 2016. They’re also a member of the Tees Women Poets and the co-founder of the Durham University Slam Team.
